If you’re coming from Jenna’s post about “The Mom Who Has Everything” over at Espresso Ever After, welcome! If you are just joining us, get ready to enjoy some lovely gift guides from some amazing woman.
Seriously, I can’t believe we are already talking about Mother’s Day! It seems like Christmas was just yesterday! Where has the time gone?
Now that I’ve packed up Easter baskets I’m on to the next thing…Mother’s Day. I don’t know about you but spring time is busy for us…and that’s an understatement! The kids have sports, swim lessons and play dates. We have birthdays to celebrate, get togethers and LOTS of BBQs. I need to get rolling on my Mother’s Day gifts, especially since I will be mailing one of them.
My mother and mother-in-law couldn’t be more different when it comes to things they like and hobbies they have. I want to make sure I’m getting them each something that’s personalized to their likes/styles. I also have a budget that I need to stay within, so looking at these awesome lists put together by each of my friends, I’m able to find things that meet both criteria.
Note to every hubby– please do not wait til the last minute to buy your wife a gift…we can tell. Also, just because we’re not YOUR mom, we are your children’s mother and lord knows my child isn’t going to go out and buy me something on his own with the money he doesn’t have. Lastly, as much as we love getting crafts from our kids…we get them all the time whether from school, church, or a craft we’ve done together.
I’ve chosen to highlight the “Crafty Mom”. This is the mom who likes to sew, paint, or anything that is down right artsy. Many times mom’s like me who enjoy all things crafty never think about buying things to pursue our hobby because we’re too busy managing our house or devoting all time and money to our kids. This is a great way for you to show that mom in your life you’re thinking about THEM. My hubby once bought me a hairdryer for mother’s day and although I needed a new one, I definitely didn’t want to get it as my mother’s day gift. I could’ve and would’ve bought it for myself.
A lot of people don’t know this about me, but I enjoy all things crafty. I LOVE to paint and draw and if I didn’t have kids to take up all my time, I would definitely spend time everyday practicing my hobby. I love sewing things for my kids, baking and decorating cakes, and scrapbooking as well.
Here’s my top 6 items for mamas like me:
- Singer Sewing Machine
This is the best sewing machine out there and can be used by any one, whether amateur or professional. It’s super easy to use and is easy on the budget too. If you have a bigger budget and your mom/lady is skilled in sewing, look at their professional designs. - Pentel Water Brushes with Windsor & Newton watercolors
This is something I’ve been eyeballing for a while now! Does your mom/lady like painting? Maybe she likes lettering? This is the gift for her! It is inexpensive and is something to excite a painter of any level. - Cricut Explore or Silhouette Cameo 3
Prior to kids, I used to spend HOURS scrapbooking. I have a Cricut (one of the first models) but I can’t believe all the things you can do with today’s models. If you have a beginner or someone who isn’t tech savvy, go with the Cricut. It is incredibly easy to use and doesn’t require a computer hookup, yet you can still do everything from scrapbooking to lettering items and walls with vinyl. If you have someone who is advanced and doesn’t want limits to what they can do, go with the Silhouette Cameo 3. - Puzzle Stow & Go
Why I never thought of this I will never know! I LOVE putting puzzles together! Growing up my mom and I would put out a puzzle, I’m talking 1000 pieces, and work on it for days little by little. As much as I would love to do that today, I have littles that would run over and knock all the pieces on the floor or rip up all the work I’ve already done. I’ve set my puzzle hobby to the side for now because of the kids, but with this stow & go mat I wouldn’t have to do that anymore. Roll it out, work on your puzzle and then roll it up and pop it out of the way until you can get back to your puzzle. GENIUS! - Craft storage
This one not only makes me happy, but also my hubby because it means I have a place to put everything. No more ribbon in several different boxes, mounds of tape around the house, and simply being able to find what I need immediately. The key is to find something that’s functional, matches their house style and fits a space without feeling cramped. The one above is one of my favorites that fits those categories and is white, so it fits with most styles. - Monthly Crafters Subscription Box
If you are looking for something unique then this is the way to go. Hellosubscription.com is a monthly box that comes to the house full of crafty items. There’s tons of different subscriptions to tailor to each person. There’s a jewelry box, planner’s box, gardener’s box, etc. You name it, there’s a box for it. This is the gift that keeps on giving all year long and is sure to amaze!
I can’t wait to see what my husband comes up with this year, although his track record isn’t the best. I hope every mother out there is showered with love and gets “me” time even if it’s just a shower uninterrupted, because let’s be honest those are rare.
Jenn over at The Body Type Stylist has put together a great guide for the stylish mom. I LOVE everything about her guide! I struggle with my style on a daily basis and love having someone who can make anyone look great give my hubby some great ideas to get me on track (wink).
Happy Mother’s Day!
