I don’t know about you but IT IS HOT where we are! I mean like sweat rolling down the back of your neck, smelling disgusting as soon as you walk out the door hot. I’m not complaining though, I will take this over snow any day!
When it’s hot outside the kids tend steer away from playing outside. This is sad because sending the kids out in the back to play is the one place I don’t have to worry. They can run around, get messy, scream, get all their energy out and I can actually get stuff done inside. I needed to find way to get them outdoors more.
The other issue my kids have is eating their veggies and even some fruits. It’s a struggle every night at dinner and I feel the constant pressure my husband and other mamas put on me to try and get those hated greens and other nutrient rich foods in them.
To be completely honest: I’M SICK OF FIGHTING THEM!
It’s not worth the fight to me anymore. I put it on their plate, in hopes one day they’ll eat them but I can’t keep having a throw down fight with them day after day to just take one dang bite!
Sorry, there’s a lot of exclamation points going on, but I seriously feel worn out and exhausted over the matter.
I got to thinking…what’s the one thing they both love and would kill two birds with one stone? Popsicles! I don’t know if you’ve looked on Pinterest but the popsicle recipes are either:
- Tons of steps and just seems like too much time to make a frozen treat
- Includes ingredients that are unnecessary, hard to find or expensive
- Loaded full of sugar including juices
I got to experimenting and have successfully created 3 different popsicles kid tested and approved!
- They don’t include any unnatural sugars
- Juice isn’t involved
- They’re packed full of veggies and fruits…yes I said veggies
- They’re fast, easy and cheap
I’ve tried a few different Popsicle molds but to be completely honest the ones I prefer to use are from Ikea (no, I am not being paid to say that). Yea, the $1.99 molds have been the easiest, sturdiest ones of the bunch. You can make Popsicles one by one because the molds come out individually. Other molds are connected like an ice tray, therefore you can’t clean and make new ones until they’re all gone. Super annoying! Did I mention these babies are dishwasher safe too. That makes mama’s job even easier!
Hope you enjoy these naturally sweet treats and stay cool this summer!
